Bilbao, Spain — The Nessum Alliance is proud to announce its inaugural global Plugfest, taking place at Enlit 2025 in Bilbao. This landmark event will showcase the interoperability of IEEE1901-based Broadband over Power Line (BPL) technology, uniting six leading OEMs from six countries across three continents.
Participating companies include:
ECOLINQX (USA), GE Vernova (France), GigaFast (Taiwan), Helvetia (Japan), Power Plus Communication AG (Germany), and Teldat (Spain).
These OEMs will demonstrate how their Nessum-enabled products—powered by chipsets from MegaChips and Socionext, using MAC/PHY IP provided by Panasonic—can seamlessly exchange user data over a single unified powerline network. The demonstration will highlight real-time interoperability across medium and low voltage networks, supporting next-generation SmartGrid applications.
“For many years, utilities have seen BPL as a promising solution for smart grid communication. However, issues related to standardization and interoperability have slowed its adoption,” said Mr. Michimasa Aramaki, President and Chairman of the Nessum Alliance.
“The Nessum Alliance has been dedicated to overcoming these challenges by promoting the IEEE 1901 international standard. Today, we are proud to mark a major milestone: the first-ever Plugfest at Enlit 2025, where BPL product companies from around the world will gather under the Nessum Alliance banner.”
🔌 Unified Connectivity for the Smart Grid
The Plugfest will demonstrate how Nessum technology enables customers to seamlessly connect devices in a broadband network that supports critical applications such as:
